Becoming a Pomeranian owner can be one of the best decisions you can ever make in your life.  This is because the breed is said to be the most intelligent and loyal among the breeds of dogs.  The Pomeranians or more popularly known as the Poms have descended from the German Spitz family with several Royal families owning them back in the earlier centuries.

Physical Description

The Poms are an adorable breed with attractive facial features.  Though they are often described as fox-like in appearance, these dogs can actually have a doll-like face or one that can pass as a teddy bear.  Another distinct and lovable feature of this breed is their smiles that give you a preview of how intelligent this breed is.

They carry a wedge-shaped head that is well proportioned with their body.  They generally have a short muzzle that makes them look like teddy bears, a triangle pointy shaped ears standing straight up, and an expressive pair of almond-shaped eyes.  The color of their nose matches the color of their double coats.  The outer coat is long, straight, and rough, while the inner coat is short, thick, and soft.

Their coat is distinct in the sense that it is longer around the neck and chest.  The coat comes in myriad of colors, from combination to patterns, such as red, white, brown, cream, black, wolf sable, blue, black and tan, orange, orange sable, brindle as well as parti-color or white along with colored markings.  The feathered tail is something to be marveled in this breed as it is pointed towards the back of the head.

What Makes Pomeranian Puppies Adorable

The Pomeranian is an intelligent breed that also shows extreme loyalty to his owner.  The Poms are always eager to learn more and their inquisitive nature along with its good natured disposition makes them one of the easiest breed to train.

Affectionate, lively, free-spirited, independent but meek, anyone even those who do not normally care about toy dogs will easily fall in love with this breed.  They easily get along well with other pets and animals with proper introduction.

They are protective of their owners and territory and are very alert to strangers.  The Poms are undoubtedly excellent watchdogs in small package.  They can be very dominant, similar to other small toy dogs, but with the right handling, you can expect your Pom to be equally obedient as well.

Becoming a Responsible Pom Owner

You have to be willing to spend time, love, care and attention to become a responsible Pom owner.  Provide your Pom with the proper care and nourishment and you’ll gain priceless rewards from your pet.  Your Pom is too smart that you can easily train him.

Pay particular attention to his grooming.  His double coat is his crowning glory so you have to maintain its texture, length, and color. You must also make it a point to take him for a walk regularly as your Pom can be prone to bone problems particularly dislocated patella or knee-cap.

Feed him a well balanced diet and no matter how tempting it can be, avoid giving him left-over foods or table scraps.  Make sure that he gets the right nutrition from his foods whether these are dog foods that you buy commercially or natural dog foods that you prepare at home.

Welcome a Pomeranian into your home, and you are opening your doors to the most intelligent and loyal breed among the toy dogs.  In their small package, the Poms can give you huge satisfaction and gigantic happiness.
